What is a calibrated dipstick?
When engines (and transmissions) are installed at an angle, the oil pan’s oil-level changes, front-to-back. If the excess oil is then drained down to the full mark, the engine will be running low on oil! High speed engines change all of the oil in the pan every 10-15 seconds.
What is dip level of tank?
The weight is lowered into the tank inside a stilling well until the operator feels the weight touch the bottom of the tank, at which point the grading on the tape is read. The tape is then retracted whilst the operator sees where the tape is wet.
Why should you stick the tank?
The gauge stick used to measure the depth of liquid in an underground tank must be marked or notched to the 1/8 inch, starting with zero at the bottom end. The stick should be made of non- sparking material, such as wood, and varnished to minimize the creeping of fuel above the actual fuel level in the tank.
How do you measure fuel in an underground tank?
Remove your oil fill cap and insert the stick into the tank until it reaches the bottom. Remove the stick and take note of the amount of oil in inches that is showing on the stick. Compare the number of inches on your stick with your fuel oil tank size on the chart to determine an estimated amount of gallons.
Why do police dip tanks?
Since the intent of them dipping tanks is to check for revenue violations, they are attempting to sieze property, your money and possibly arrest you for a crime.

How do you measure an oil tank?
To measure the amount of oil in the tank, extend a measuring tape down into the tank. As soon as the end of the tape touches the bottom of the tank, bring the tape up out of the tank by lifting the tape measure, not by retracting it.
Where is the oil dipstick?
The oil dipstick is located at the back of the engine. If you look at the engine from a top view it is located at about 11 o’clock. It’s black.

Close the fill hole with the cap tightly.
